The Enneagram and Evolution

A New View of the Integral Life

How to Cultivate Consciousness

Only through the evolution of integral consciousness in ourselves can we hope to create a new and better world.

Human beings have the capacity to develop their consciousness over an entire lifetime. From the prepersonal world of infancy through to the personal world views of the mythic and rational mind of the young adult, human consciousness progresses rather steadily. Unfortunately, the great majority of mature adults remain trapped in the mythic/rational stage of egoic consciousness ignorant of the possibilities that lie beyond this limited level. And even though the transpersonal stages of integral consciousness are accessible to any mature adult who wishes to evolve consciously, few are aware and even fewer take the opportunity to do so.

While we provide mandatory school for our young and encourage our youth to seek higher education, as adults we close our minds to the possibility of yet an even higher level of consciousness that can be achieved.

Simply striving to be the best mother/father, daughter/son, wife/husband, teacher, doctor, salesperson, builder, artist etc will not make you a fulfilled, happier human being because these roles are all goals of the ego. Ego is never satisfied; there will always seem to be something missing.

Only by making the development of integral consciousness your primary goal in adult life will you acquire the authentic legacy that can be yours as a human being to-day.

Find a teacher who inspires you to work toward that aim.
Remember you did not learn the three Rs and reach your current level of cognitive intellectual ability without going to school and having the help of trained teachers. Just so, you will not develop your consciousness beyond the rational world view without the support of a knowledgeable and evolved teacher.

By reaching past the personal stages of consciousness one is then able to make use of the spiritual Enneagram to reveal the true Self, the essential principle and purpose of one’s life that lies beyond ego.

As an adult, no one can force you to learn; there are no laws compelling you to expand your consciousness. The decision is yours alone.

‘The qualities latent within our own Essence are Divine Attributes. It is because the Divine Compassion exists to reveal itself to us that there exists the possibility of knowing the Infinite by knowing ourselves and of knowing the particular Divine Attribute we most exemplify.’
